What is the 9th Commandment all about?
Recently I was asked the question ‘What is the 9th Commandment all about? Well, to start with, the 9th Commandment ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife’ also applies to women, that is you shall not covet your neighbor’s husband.
Now, it is good to know the meaning of covet, and with a simple search on Google you find that it is a desire, wish, want, crave, meaning of having a longing foramongst others. Coveting is a sin and is the beginning of every exterior sin that it brings with, that can lead to adultery or other sexual sins.
Anyone who commits coveting is not loving God; because if you really love God, you cannot then covet your neighbour’s wife or husband. So in the 9th commandment what is important is to be pure in thought, and not let wilful impurity takes over our thoughts and desires.
God Bless You
