As the summer season continues, preparations are already underway at Schola Cantorum Jubilate (SCJ) for the coming winter season—and with them comes an exciting opportunity for children and young people to discover the joy and rewards of choral singing.
The SCJ Choir School provides a supportive and inspiring environment where young singers can develop their musical abilities, gain performance experience and build valuable skills that extend well beyond music.
For children who are passionate about singing, eager to learn new music or excited by the opportunity to perform, joining a choir can be a truly enriching experience. Through quality choral education, choristers are encouraged to develop their voices while also strengthening their confidence, concentration, discipline and ability to work as part of a team.
Director Marouska Attard says that the benefits of choral singing extend far beyond vocal development. Through regular rehearsals and performances, young singers have the opportunity to improve their musical skills, concentration and memory, while developing communication skills, self-discipline and confidence. Just as importantly, they become part of a community where friendships are formed and achievements are shared.
At SCJ, there is a strong belief that singing together offers children and youths a unique opportunity to learn, collaborate and grow. Working towards a shared musical goal encourages responsibility, perseverance and teamwork, while creating a strong sense of belonging and achievement.
The SCJ Choir School welcomes children aged 6 to 11 to its Children’s Choir and young people aged 12 to 18 to its Youth Choir. Sessions are held in Xagħra, Gozo every Saturday.
Applications are currently open for auditions taking place this September. Parents and guardians are invited to give their children the opportunity to discover their voice, develop their musical potential, make new friends and experience the rewards of singing together.
