The feastday of St Augustine of Hippo, on Friday 28 August 2020, made me think of a phrase he wrote: “Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.” Does this Augustinian reflection not mirror what Jesus said: He who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 14:11)?Am I smart enough to pray to the Lord Jesus that He may increase in me so that my ego decreases?
