INTRODUCTION TO THE SERIES
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus often responds in ways that surprise, confound, or profoundly challenge those around him. At times, he deflects direct questions, answering instead in parables or counter-questions. At other moments, he responds with unexpected actions or words, unprompted, yet deeply purposeful. In both these responses and silences, he invites us to look beyond the surface of things and to enter more fully into the mystery of the heavenly kingdom within and among us.
Why dwell on these unexpected responses? To drink from them is to be drawn into the mind and heart of Christ. We begin to glimpse his priorities, his wisdom, and his compassionate vision of reality—one that transforms how we might live and respond to life. May each blog in this series provide a seat beside the Master, encouraging us to contemplate, enjoy, and perhaps even experience directly the transformative power of Jesus’ teachings.
The hope is that the poetry, pictures, and prose of these blogs will hone our spiritual intuition to receive the wisdom that shines beyond words. Together, we will seek to savour the height and depth of his apparent motivation and actions, not only as historical events but as invitations to a deeper, life-giving journey.
