Awwissu-Settembru 2022, Nru 104

Din l-edizzjoni tirreġistra splużjoni ta’ avvenimenti mużikali fis-sajf li ttellgħu ma’ kull rokna tal-gżira. Il-Qala, ix-Xwejni, Ta’ Kerċem, l-Imġarr, il-Belt Victoria, Santa Luċija, iċ-Ċittadella, ix-Xagħra, iż-Żebbuġ, Għajnsielem u anki l-Għadira ta’ San Raflu offrew spettakli mużikali lil min wera interess. U jekk dan mhux biżżejjed, naqraw ukoll dwar l-istaġun operistiku annwali fil-ħarifa li ġejja, bi tliet rappreżentazzonijiet u numru ta’ avvenimenti edukattivi dwar dan il-ġeneru mużikali. Temi oħra ttrattati f’din il-ħarġa jinkludu riċensjonijiet u apprezzamenti artistiċi, storja u sport. Naqraw ukoll l-impressjonijiet ta’ żewġ artisti Ġermaniżi li żaru u pittru fuq il-gżira bħala parti mill-proġett Face Europe. Fuq nota iktar sobrja, hi mfakkra Sr Marċellina Tabone, missjunarja mill-Belt Victoria li nqatlet fil-Pakistan fl-1997. Artiklu interessanti u xi ftit allarmanti jagħti ħarsa lejn statistiċi rrappurtati fi studju akkademiku dwar l-ekonomija Għawdxija li jikxef li fi snin riċenti l-gżira gawdiet minn inqas minn 2% tal-fondi allokati lill-baġit nazzjonali annwali! Dan minkejja l-fatt li Għawdex hu kważi terz tal-kobor tal-gżira oħt, u jilqa’ fuq 7% tal-popolazzjoni nazzjonali. Tema li ċertament hi ta’ min jindagaha.

Il-Ħajja f’Għawdex, August-September 2022, No 1040

This edition puts on record the explosion of summer musical events that took place all over the island. Qala, Xwejni, Ta’ Kerċem, Mġarr, Victoria, Santa Luċija, the Citadel, Xagħra, Żebbuġ, Għajnsielem and even L-Għadira ta’ San Raflu offered their musical fare to those who cared to listen. As if that was not enough, we can also read about the annual opera season coming up in autumn, consisting of three full-scale performances and a number of educational events on the genre. Other topics covered by this periodical include book and art reviews, history and sports. We can also read the very complimentary impressions of two German artists who visited and painted on the island as part of the EU Face Europe project. On a more sober note, it commemorates Sr Marċellina Tabone, a missionary nun from Victoria who was killed in Pakistan in 1997. An interesting – not to say alarming – article takes a look at statistics reported in an academic study on the Gozo economy which reveal that in recent years the island enjoyed less than 2% of the funds allotted to the annual national budget! This in spite of the fact that Gozo is almost one third the size of its sister island, and hosts over 7% of the national population. It is certainly a topic that is worth looking into.
