Dun Anton Teuma twieled fil-11 ta’ Jannar 1964, f’familja sempliċi u reliġjuża, bin Ewkaristu u Salvina, ġenituri ta’ erba’ wlied, fix-Xagħra, Għawdex. Missieru għadda għall-ħajja ta’ dejjem fl-2012.

Wara li attenda l-Iskola Primarja tax-Xagħra (1968-1974), kompla l-istudji tiegħu fl-Iskola Sekondarja tas-Seminarju Minuri tal-Qalb ta’ Ġesù. Aktar tard beda l-istudju tal-Filosofija u t-Teoloġija fis-Seminarju Maġġuri ta’ Għawdex (1981-1988). Matul is-sena intermedjarja, huwa ħadem f’Paramatta, l-Awstralja, bħala welder fil-Fabbrika Rheem li tispeċjalizza f’sistemi tal-misħun. Hemm kiseb il-liċenzji ta’ welder u ta’ electrician.

Ġie ordnat saċerdot nhar il-25 ta’ Ġunju 1988 minn Mons. Nikol Ġ. Cauchi, Isqof ta’ Għawdex. Intbagħat Ruma fejn beda l-missjoni tiegħu bħala Vigarju Parrokkjali tal-Parroċċa ta’ Sant’Injazju ta’ Antjokja, li dakinhar il-kappillan tagħha kien Mons. Ġużepp Attard. Dun Anton kompla l-istudji tiegħu fl-Università Pontifiċja Salesjana, mnejn kiseb il-Baċellerat fix-Xjenzi tal-Edukazzjoni, u Liċenzja fil-Metodoloġija Pedagoġika (1988-1995).

Huwa baqa’ jaħdem fid-Djoċesi ta’ Ruma sal-1997. Matul dawn is-snin, barra l-ħidma tiegħu fil-parroċċa (1988-1995), kien Direttur Spiritwali estern tas-Seminarju Pontifiċju Ruman (1993-1995) u aktar tard Direttur Spiritwali intern tal-istess Seminarju Pontifiċju (1995-1997). Kien ukoll Assistent Spiritwali u Responsabbli tal-Komunitajiet Ewkaristiċi tad-Djoċesi ta’ Ruma (1996-1997).

Fl-1997, Dun Anton ġie msejjaħ lura Għawdex minn Mons. Isqof Cauchi u maħtur Rettur tas-Seminarju tal-Qalb ta’ Ġesù, missjoni li wettaq għal għaxar snin, sas-sena 2007. Minn Settembru 2007 sa Ġunju 2008 għamel sena sabbatika fl-Art Imqaddsa, fejn iddedika l-parti l-kbira tal-ħin għall-istudju u t-talb. Kiseb Diploma fil-Formazzjoni Biblika mill-Istitut Bibliku Franġiskan f’Ġerusalemm, u kien jgħin fl-assistenza pastorali lill-pellegrini fil-Bażilika tal-Qabar ta’ Kristu. Mis-sena 1998 sas-sena 2016 kien responsabbli u assistent spiritwali tal-Komunitajiet Ewkaristiċi fid-Djoċesi ta’ Għawdex.

Sadanittant, Dun Anton kiseb Baċellerat fix-Xjenzi tal-Formazzjoni, fl-Istitut għall-Formaturi anness mal-Istitut tal-Psikoloġija tal-Università Pontifiċja Gregorjana (2016). Kiseb ukoll Post-graduate Diploma fis-Systemic Family Psychotherapy mill-Istitut tat-Terapija tal-Familja, Malta (2018). Hu kien qiegħed ikompli l-Masters fiż-żewġ istituti msemmija.

Fil-preżent, Dun Anton huwa Delegat tal-Isqof għall-Pastorali tal-Familja (minn Awwissu 2008), Direttur tal-Istitut tal-Familja Papa Ġwanni Pawlu II fil-Belt Victoria (minn Novembru 2013), responsabbli mill-kura pastorali taż-żona madwar l-Istitut, kif ukoll għalliem fis-Seminarju Maġġuri.

Minbarra l-ħidma pastorali fiż-żona ta’ madwar l-Istitut tal-Familja, parti kbira mill-ħidma ta’ Dun Anton hija marbuta mal-familja: il-ħidma f’kollaborazzjoni ma’ numru kbir ta’ koppji animaturi fit-tħejjija u fl-organizzazzjoni tal-korsijiet tal-għarajjes; il-ħidma flimkien ma’ koppji oħra fil-formazzjoni kontinwa tal-familji; kif ukoll fil-ħinijiet ta’ counselling għad-dispożizzjoni ta’ familji f’diffikultà.

Sa mill-1997, hu membru tal-Kulleġġ tal-Konsulturi, membru tal-Kunsill Presbiterali u membru tal-Kunsill Pastorali Djoċesan.

Dun Anton ippubblika żewġ kotba u bosta artikli fuq il-familja, il-formazzjoni għas-saċerdozju u temi bibliċi. Huwa jħobb l-isport u x-xogħol manwali.

Biographical note – REV. ANTON TEUMA

Fr Anton Teuma was born on January 11, 1964 to a humble, religious family from Xagħra (Diocese of Gozo). His father passed away in 2012.

After having attended the Xagħra Primary School (1968-1974), he continued his studies at the Gozo Minor Sacred Heart Seminary. Subsequently, he studied philosophy and theology at the Diocesan Major Seminary (1981-1988). Throughout the intermediary year, he worked as a welder at the Rheem hotwater systems factory in Paramatta, Australia, where he also obtained his welder and electrician work licences.

He was ordained priest on June 25, 1988. He was then sent to Rome to further his studies at the Salesian Pontifical University, from where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences and his Masters degree in Pedagogical Methodology (1988-1995).

In agreement with his Bishop, Fr Anton stayed on in Rome up till 1997. During these years he carried out his priestly ministry as Parish Vicar of St Ignatius of Antioch Parish (1988-1995); external Spritual Director of the Pontifical Roman Seminary (1993-1995); Spiritual Director at the Pontifical Roman Seminary (1995-1997); priest in charge of and Spiritual Assistant to the Comunità Eucaristiche of the Diocese of Rome (1996-1997).

In 1997 he was appointed Rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary in Gozo by Bishop Nicholas Cauchi, a role he served up till 2007. Between September 2007 and June 2008 he spent a sabbatical year in the Holy Land, dedicating most of his time to study and prayer. During this year he in fact obtained a Diploma in Biblical Formation from the Franciscan Biblical Institute of Jerusalem, and helped in the pastoral assistance given to pilgrims at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. From 1998 to 2016 he was in charge of the Comunità Eucaristiche of the Gozo Diocese carrying out also the role of their Spiritual Assistant.

In the meantime, Fr Anton completed a Bachelor’s degree in Sciences of Formation at the Institute for Formators within the Institute of Psychology of the Pontifical Gregorian University (2016). He also obtained a post-graduate diploma in Systemic Family Psychotherapy at the Institute of Family Therapy, Malta (2018). He was currently pursuing his Masters degrees at both Institutes.

At present Fr Anton is the Bishop’s Delegate for Family Pastoral Care (since August 2008), Director of the Diocesan Family Institute (since November 2013), in charge of the pastoral care of the area around the Family Institute and lecturer at the Diocesan Major Seminary.

Moreover, since 1997, he is a member of the Bishop’s College of Consulters, the Presbyteral Council and the Diocesan Pastoral Council.

Fr Anton is fluent in English and Italian, and has a reading knowledge of French, Spanish and Latin. He has published two books and various articles on family, priestly formation and biblical themes.
