Il-Ħajja f’Għawdex, Mejju 2021, No 1027

L-editorjal ta’ dan ix-xahar jieqaf għal ftit fuq il-benniet gastronomiċi ta’ Għawdex u jfisser kif paradossalment huma marbuta kemm mat-tradizzjoni u kemm mal-ħajja tal-lum. Imbagħad ikompli jispjega prodotti oħra ġenwini minn Għawdex li jixirqilhom iktar attenzjoni anki mill-konsumatur lokali. It-ton ‘ħelu’ tal-editorjal jikkuntrasta mal-kritika qawwija tal-Isqof ta’ Għawdex għat-tentattivi li qed isiru biex jiġu llegalizzati l-abort u l-użu tal-kannabis.

Band’oħra, insibu fil-qosor aħbar dwar it-tnedija imminenti tas-servizz tal-fast ferry, flimkien ma’ aġġornamenti fuq il-bini mill-ġdid tal-Kumpless Sportiv fil-Belt Victoria u għadd ta’ toroq fil-kampanja. Ir-rivista tiċċelebra wkoll il-front wieħed iffurmat mis-sindki tal-lokalitajiet tagħna determinati li jsalvaw lil Għawdex minn żviluppi żejda. Daqshekk ieħor interessanti hi t-tnedija tal-Gozo Artisan Network biex tippromovi snajja’ li jinkludu xogħlijiet fil-bizzilla, il-fuħħar, il-ħġieġ u l-insiġ.

Il-Ħajja f’Għawdex, May 2021, No 1028

This month’s editorial lingers momentarily on Gozo’s gastronomic delights and cleverly explains how they are paradoxically related both to tradition and the here-and-now. It then moves on to describe other genuine products from Gozo that merit more attention even from local consumers than at present. The jovial tone of the editorial contrasts with the sombre criticism by the Bishop of attempts to legalize abortion and the use of marijuana. Elsewhere, the imminent launching of the fast ferry service is briefly described, alongside updates on the rebuilding of the sports centre in Victoria and a number of rural roads. The periodical also celebrates the joint apolitical front formed by all the town and village mayors in their determination to save Gozo from overdevelopment. Equally interesting is the launching of the Gozo Artisan Network which seeks to promote crafts that include lacework, pottery, glass making and weaving.
