Il-Ħajja f’Għawdex, Ġunju-Lulju 2021, Nru 1029

Wieħed mill-artikli dan ix-xahar hu dwar l-iskoperta ta’ għar Puniku mħaffer fil-blat f’San Lawrenz, li esperti jemmnu li kien jintuża għall-produzzjoni tal-inbid. Issa hemm pjanijiet għar-riabilitazzjoni tiegħu li se żżidu mal-lista ta’ siti qodma aċċessibbli għall-viżitaturi.

Mil-lenti artistika, nistgħu naqraw dwar l-inawgurazzjoni tal-monument ta’ San Franġisk, imqiegħed kif xieraq fi Pjazza San Franġisk, il-Belt Victoria. L-intervista tax-xahar hi mal-kompożitriċi u pjanista żagħżugħa Maria Mifsud minn Ta’ Kerċem, li wħud mix-xogħlijiet tagħha kisbu premijiet u ndaqqu f’Londra, Valencia, Budapest, Vjenna u Ohoio. Fuq paġni oħra nitpaxxew b’ritratti sbieħ tal-fotografu Anthony Grech. George Cassar estenda l-‘mawra letterarja’ tiegħu mal-gżira, li fiha jirriferi għal pubblikazzjonijiet dwar jew marbuta ma’ siti u binijiet partikulari. Ir-rivista tiċċelebra wkoll l-ordinazzjoni riċenti ta’ żewġ saċerdoti żgħażagħ u djaknu, waqt li nsibu riflessjonijiet spiritwali dwar l-Amoris lætitia, il-Kurċifiss mirakuluż li nsibu fil-kunvent Kapuċċin fil-Belt Victroria, u kitbiet bibliċi.

Il-Ħajja f’Għawdex, June-July 2021, No 1029

One of the articles this month concerns the discovery of a Punic hand-hewn cave in San Lawrenz, which experts believe to have been used for the production of wine. There are now plans for its rehabilitation that will add it to the list of ancient sites accessible to visitors. On the artistic front, we can read about the inauguration of a monumental statue of St Francis, placed appropriately in St Francis Square in Victoria. The monthly interview features the young composer, pianist and conductor Maria Mifsud from Ta’ Kerċem, some of whose prize-winning works have been performed  in London, Valencia, Budapest, Vienna and Ohio. On other pages we are regaled by the works of landscape photographer Anthony Grech. George Cassar extends his well studied ‘literary tour’ of the island, during which he identifies and reviews publications about or closely associated with particular sites and buildings across the island. The periodical also celebrates the recent ordination of two young priests and a deacon, while there are spiritual reflections on Amoris lætitia, the miraculous Crucifix found in the Capuchin monastery in Victoria, and Biblical passages.
